In Appreciation of the Thirteen Fallen Americans

It’s been very sobering seeing the pictures and bios of the twelve Marines and one Navy Seal who died in the recent bombing in Kabul.

Each one of them was doing the right thing in trying to save others from tyranny. Each one had a face, a story, and a family.

It kind of puts things in perspective.

Thank you for your courageous service to our country.

Our prayers are with you.

  1. Hi,
Thank you for this, I needed something to add some perspective. I am so saddened by the loss of life in Afghanistan and yet we had to leave. We were just prolonging the pain and need to let them decide who they want to be in the 21st century. It will be messy just like our own civil war that is still unresolved, so we have little room to be critical of the path they choose.
Also enjoyed the blog on your dad; you know I loved Bobby like a dad and miss him and all the fun we had. I also want to acknowledge what an amazing human he became over time, little Robert has a lot to live up to.
A final connection between the 2 topics- when Bobby, Mindy, Chris and I went to London to the Science Museum event and met the Queen, the other family with us was the family of the last unknown soldier from Viet Nam that had been identified with DNA technology. I always smile when I remember how your dad introduced me to the Queen as his DNA advisor, pure Bobby.
    Love you,
    Jan

  2. Bobby loved that stuff with the Queen and anything related to his DNA relation to Jesse James. The whole Jesse James thing was my Dad. He played it to the hilt. The guy who graduated first in his law class and could have been with any firm in downtown OKC if that’s what he had wanted. But he didn’t want that.
He was a street lawyer. Just like a character out of a John Grisham novel.
I think he actually met Grisham once at an Innocence Project luncheon in that one his interns, Greg Saunders, a former Marine pilot was the defense lawyer of the defendant Dennis Spence.
Thanx for the great note. Love, Mike
