Mike Gundy’s Interesting Mid-Week TCU Press Conference

I’m a bit concerned about Mike Gundy. My son called me from Denver last night and told me to watch this press conference This is a very odd press conference…even for Mike Gundy.

Mike Gundy isn’t forty years old anymore. He’s in his fifties and forever the rant will brand his career at O State as head coach. Gundy went on from the rant to become the winningest coach in the program’s history.

Bobby Reid eventually left O State and transferred to a smaller school in Texas.

After a somewhat nice career back in Texas, he went on to play a little Arena Football and never became the next Vince Young.

Mike Gundy made amends with Bobby Reid and at one point Reid was a graduate assistant under Gundy at O State.

Zac Robinson, the quarterback who beat out Reid at O State, was a mid round draft pick by the Patriots and had a brief career in pro football.

Jenni Carlson–the columnist who wrote the story which fueled the rant is still with the Oklahoman.

Mike Leach, who was coaching against Gundy that fateful day in Stillwater for Texas Tech, fired his defensive coordinator the next day and is now coaching at Washington State.

Berry Tramel is still a columnist for the Oklahoman and enjoys pulling Mike Gundy’s chain here and again to get a good quote. Tramel’s voice is the one in this interview asking Gundy about him calling the defensive alignments in the last minutes against TCU. That had to be priceless to witness in person.

It’s hard to watch Gundy this season talking of taking double doses of Ambien to get him through the nights when his team doesn’t play well. Maybe there comes a time when maybe it might be time for Mike Gundy to take a break from his alma mater and let someone else coach football at O State.
