It was announced the Texas State Fair has been cancelled. I would say this puts OU’s football season in a holding pattern. It would seem the logical thing for the Big 12 at this point would be to postpone the fall season and play the season in the second semester.

The entire creation of this version of the Big 12 was predicated on keeping the OU-Texas game intact in October at the Texas State Fair. It would make no sense whatsoever to play this game in an empty stadium at another venue. It would make little sense to play Bedlam in an empty stadium as well.

This doesn’t bode well for the college football season to get going as scheduled which is a shame because OU was slated to play at Army and was going to host a pretty decent Tennessee team as well in non-conference play.

These are unchartered waters for the people making these decisions. But I would think the college football season is on the cusp of being delayed four months until after Christmas.

Even in the SEC…why would you play Auburn-Alabama or Florida-Georgia in empty stadiums? The fans, the bands, ESPN Game Day, the bars, and the overall campus hoopla are what make college football so much fun.

The Masters golf championship will be played in November. Our world is upside down.

College football should wait.

This is what Chuba Hubbard was hoping Mike Gundy would do in the wake of in essence wearing a Breitbart shirt on social media.

Bob Stoops was certainly not perfect. He’s human. He made some mistakes. I was tough on Bob Stoops for keeping Joe Mixon… at first.

But I’ve thought about Joe Mixon and Bob Stoops quite a bit lately in the aftermath of watching whites in Oklahoma and the whole Donald Trump thing.

It shocks me to say I’ve changed my mind. If that white girl had gone up to my son’s table and called him a nigger…I’m not totally sure I would want him to sit there and take that as a man.

This is how much Donald Trump has lowered the bar for me. Four years ago I would have said under no circumstances should a man strike a woman. Ever. Go high like Michelle Obama.

But I have to say at this point…given what I’ve seen from Trump Nation the past four years…I’m not sure I could tell Joe Mixon or any young black man to just sit there and take this from another person.

It genuinely saddens me Donald Trump has not only done this to our country, but to me as well.

I really have nothing to say today. I live in a place like Oklahoma where I can already tell you the most inept, the most corrupt, and the most unqualified POTUS in history will win all of Oklahoma’s seventy-seven counties by comfortable margins in November.

So if you’re not one of those people..this is for you. Like Dave Chappelle …I find it completely vexing these ‘confused’ white people attach themselves to Donald Trump of all people. but at some point… we have to look out for ourselves. We can’t change the world.

The still living Don McLean played this at the end of CNN’s July Fourth special. This song came out in 1971 when I was a mere ninth grader at Herbert Hoover Jr. High. It was my favorite song for close to a year.

In the ninth grade.. I was the starting two guard for the Hawks’ basketball team which was all-white and coached by Bennie Hensley. My sophmore year at John Marshall, which was a school about half black, saw me sitting the bench as a typical white role player at John Marshall.

I was a smart kid though and quickly decided to focus on baseball and became a solid three year starter.

John Marshall back in its better days had two of the better black coaches in Oklahoma high school basketball…Tommie Griffin (father of Blake) and Eddie Evans (father of Terry).

It’s a shame Donald Trump never attended a school like John Marshall. He might have learned something about life beyond becoming a grifter.

I’ve never thought Mullet King was a racist per se of the David Duke template. More just like the average white guy in Oklahoma or Alabama who has embraced the whole Donald Trump experience because Meet the Press is boring at times.

To me this whole racist thing with Gundy is ludicrous. I wouldn’t fire Gundy for the Trump network shirt, but I would have run him off if contractually possible because he doesn’t win enough quality games versus quality opponents to merit his pay.

This whole nonsense about O State being the second best team in the Big 12 these past twelve years is nonsense as well. The Big 12 sucks. It is a piece of junk football conference which has stayed relevant because Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts transferred to Norman.

If you take away those three quarterback transfers I think it’s relatively clear…the Big 12 football wise isn’t all that much.

The Big 12 hasn’t won a national championship in football since Vince Young beat USC in 2006. The Big 12 hasn’t made it to the finals since Colt McCoy lost to Nick Saban when Saban won his first ring at Alabama.

Let me go further on Gundy. He’s won ‘One’ conference championship in his fifteen years at O State as the head coach. He leveraged Boone Pickens and Mike Holder so he wouldn’t have to play quality non-conference teams and with Brandon Weeden won ‘One’ championship in a conference which doesn’t tackle.

If Bob Stoops hadn’t repunted to the NFL’s most explosive current player in Super Bowl champion Tyreke Hill… you know what Gundy’s record would be versus the defense-less Sooners?

1-14.

Let’s call this like it is. With Mike Gundy as the head man at O State the program has about the same chance of beating the defense-less Sooners as it does in seeing Boone Pickens ride down from hydro-carbon heaven into his football stadium on Haley’s Comet.

$5.25 million per for this bullshit?

You know why Gundy never took any SEC West job? Because he would have finally had to coach against football teams which can actually tackle.

And just to be fair..that’s probably the same reason OU stayed away from the SEC West as well.

So when I read what Mike Holder and Burns Hargis said in relation to Gundy being a changed man by all of this…I kind of smiled.

Do this for me, guys.

Tell Gundy to play Ohio State in Columbus next year or LSU in the Kick-Off Classic.

See if we witness real change.

There has been so much turmoil in our lives of late I thought I’d post this today in appreciation of Chris Paul’s season in Oklahoma City.

Whether the NBA successfully restarts its season in August doesn’t matter. Chris Paul came back to Oklahoma City in the trade for Russell Westbrook and was the perfect fit for Billy Donovan and Sam Presti.

His professionalism and clutch play were key in OKC’s surprising 40-24 season which was ended in March by the COVID-19 play stoppage.

He was clearly the Thunder’s MVP as he formed a three guard tandem with SGA and Dennis Schroder which was one of the best three guard tandems in the league.

I have no idea if the NBA will be able to successfully pull off this COVID restart in August, but either way it goes Chris Paul’s season in Oklahoma City was an extreme positive for every fan of the Thunder.

The Thunder are starting to practice again and ‘ostensibly’ will start playing some games again in August. So we’ll see how that goes.

As an Oklahoman this 5th Congressionaal District runoff will be something I keep track of on my blog.

Obviously…I think Terry Neese is crazy and a Glenn Close-like stalker of the the Trumpster Fire. So as an open minded independent I will give Stephanie Bice a look.

She’s attractive. She’s articulate. I would pick her over either Mary Fallin or Kevin Stitt in a heartbeat. She has experience in Oklahoma politics. I wish she would just be honest and say she was a Carly Fiorina supporter back in 2016. BTW…just last week Carly Fiorina endorsed Joe Biden pretty much saying Donald Trump is a complete and utter joke in the White House.

If Stephanie Bice would just say openly in Oklahoma what Carly Fiorina said just last week I could actually consider voting for her even though I’m somewhat of a social liberal with fiscal conservative leanings.

I differ with her on several things, but I’m an open minded person. I don’t need all of my boxes checked. If I voted tomorrow I’d vote for Kendra Horn just for the fact she agreed with Carly Fiorina and voted to impeach the most corrupt POTUS in American history.

So here’s Stephanie Bice doing an intro interview explaining her candidacy back when there where nine Republicans seeking the opportunity to unseat Kendra Horn who like Carly Fiorina doesn’t think Donald Trump is fit for the presidency.

From the first moment I saw a Terry Neese ad and then her subsequent Save Trump yard signs there was never a doubt in my mind she’d be the GOP choice in Oklahoma’s 5th congressional district.

Terry Neese took the Kevin Stitt playbook from the 2018 gubernatorial race and went two steps beyond tethering her and Donald Trump together as if they are one.

Neese garnered 36% of the vote while state senator Stephanie Bice came in with 25% of the vote.

Neese’s stategy will be simple…she’ll continually run ads reminding every rogue red Rebublican in the district that Bice was originally a Carly Fiorina supporter in 2016.

Ball game. Game, set, and match.

On the Dem side Kendra Horn easily swamped one of my former poly-sci professors at UCO in Tom Guild. Tom actually used to be a Republican. Go figure.

Horn vs. Neese should be a war and one of the more interesting congressional elections in the nation on November 3rd.

Oklahoma’s 5th District is somewhat what unique in that it combines Norman with some of Oklahoma City’s more educated pockets of people who woudn’t automatically vote for Hitler or Stalin if they had the R next to their names on the Oklahoma ballot.

Vegas would have Horn as a very slight favorite I think in that she’s amassed a nice war chest of $2.3 million and I would think Independents like myself need a little more than Terry Neese’s mantra of Save Trump and Mary Fallin II.

For political junkies it should be a great race.

In reality…this is a very effective ad. It offers no apology in throwing red meat at the Trump base and explaining why every Trump voter in the 5th District should vote for Terry Neese.

From a political strategy standpoint…I give her credit. Never give a sucker an even break and kick him in the face when he’s down.

This Horn-Neese thing is going to be a bloodbath.

I would guess Terry Neese and Stephanie Bice will be the two Republicans who advance to the final GOP runoff later in the summer.

Be especially safe with this weather the next two days.

For me, this is truly one of the great songs of all-time. I’ve never been able to decide if Dionne Warwick or Diana Krall sing it better though.
