Jim Knowles…’Their Mistakes Are Mine.’

Jim Knowles took the Ohio State offensive coordinator’s job on Tuesday. His annual pay of $2 million per will make him one of college football’s highest paid coordinators.

O State reportedly offered $1.3 million. Do I think Jim Knowles simply took the job for more money?

No. I don’t. I think the extra money is nice for Jim Knowles, but I also think studying him somewhat he wants a new challenge every five or so years. I think Ohio State will be his first job where the stakes are extremely high. It’s a place where if you don’t make the Final Four the season is viewed as a failure.

If you study his resume each one of his jobs has been a rung higher competitively on the competition ladder.

It’s like he’s pushing himself to get better just like he demands of his players.

Evidently… his speech at the Frank Broyles Award Show was a big hit. I’m going to try and find it and put it on my blog.

I love what he says about coaching defense. He says, “It’s like me and my players get on a submarine together and we either excel or fail together based on how well I’ve taught them. Their mistakes are my mistakes.”

I love that. Every coach at every level should know that quote.
