It’s OU Senior Night and Coach Porter Moser’s group is in desperate need of a win over a good Missouri team. I’d probably have Missouri favored at -3 on my pick.
The Sooners are 4-12 in SEC play and 17-12 overall. Their last three losses have all been one basket losses to LSU, Kentucky, and a road loss at Ole Miss.
There is no more room on the resume for another home SEC loss, maybe not even a loss at Texas on Saturday. Porter Moser has never beaten Texas home or away during his four year stint in Norman. He never beat Kansas. He beat Baylor once in a Big 12 Tournament game. He did however beat every other Big 12 team and has a current three game winning streak against now Sub-Division Oklahoma State.
So at least he still has that to point to along with some nice wins over Providence, Louisville, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Arkansas on the road (best win on the resume), Vanderbilt, and Miss State.
But any thought whatsover about slipping in as a bubble team will require at the minimum a win at home tonight over Missouri.
I’m not the normal OU fan. I’m not a teasipper. I don’t quit on my teams. I feel their pain right now. Hell, I didn’t even go to school at OU althouhg I dreamed of playing third base for Enos Semore as a high school player. I worked/paid my way through college and graduated from UCO after six years of night school and summer night classes. I then did a follow-up degree at O State-OKC after I decided the Bob Jackson Street Law JD wasn’t the way I wanted to go with my life.
But I do bleed Crimson in the worst way imaginable. At times I wish I didn’t.
And in looking back… for the most part I like the path of my life. Coach Lombardi’s voice stayed with me, “Michael, be true to God, yourself, your family and never surrender. Don’t allow quitting to be part of your character”.
So…tonight I’d like to get there early and hang around the ramp coming out to the floor so I can tell Jalon Moore, Duke Miles, Sam Godwin and the other seniors to keep their chins up and don’t surrender on Senior Night or at Texas on Saturday at 6:00pm. Just do your best—you can live with that.
Good luck, guys.
Let’s go. BOOMER!
