After Dark

Tomorrow in Tulsa does not make me feel at ease. It reminds of the ending in John Grisham’s ‘A Time to Kill’ in the streets of Clanton, Mississippi.

I’ve made my feelings very clear on this blog in regards to Donald Trump.

I’m praying for Donald Trump tonight.

I’m praying that for one time in his miserable selfish existence he can find it in himself to display empathy and some grace for others in Tulsa tomorrow.

One time.

One time in his presidency he could take the high ground and be a leader instead of a punk.

Pray hard for Donald Trump tonight.

Should Joe Exotic Replace Burns Hargis as President of O-State?

I know…I know… Joe Exotic is slated to be in federal prsion for the next twenty-two years, but the notion Mike Gundy and Joe Exotic aren’t tied together in some tangible manner seems wrong to me.

If the regents at O State could just combine Joe Exotic and the Mullet King together I feel almost certain O State would emerge as the Notre Dame of the southwest.

Are there any federal or state statutes which prohit one in federal prison from serving as the president of a state funded university in Oklahoma?

There could be in the other forty-nine states, but at this point I feel confident 80% of Oklahomans would be okay with someone in federal prison running Oklahoma State University.

It just seems like obvious destiny to me. Who knows… Gundy might even discover something new about himself at this point in his mid-life Mullet King existence?

One hundred thousand people bent on becoming covid positive expected in Tulsa tomorrow. Is this a great state or what?

I tell you it is a tough, tough gig living in Oklahoma.

Tough gig.

This is why it’s nice for me, the wife, and the lab to have a place in the woods in Deer Creek where you can pretend none of these people really exist.

National Perception of Mike Gundy

This is what a good part of the rest of United States think of Mike Gundy currently. Now…I guess O State could leave the Big 12 and possibly enter some lesser non Power 5 conference and go at it as an all white football program.

Maybe Holder and Gundy could cook up some cockamamie bullshit about O State becoming the BYU of the southern plains and adorning the pussy grabber as their biblical/spirital leader of sorts.

You know…kind of like becoming BYU as a religous school. Like Baylor…only with the open concept of Tic Tacs and pussy grabbing. Put a big picture of Trump right there on the scoreboard in Boone’s stadium and get after it. Get Billy Bush involved in the program if possible.

Scheduling would be challenging and it would be virtually impossible to win a game against the top sixty or so teams in the country…..but if the fans of O State and donors are so enamored with Gundy and Trump this is the way O State should go.

Hell, maybe even call it Trump University II. Just use what’s left of Boone’s money to pay the bills though.

Put Jim Traber at the top of the list on the big boy donor list and see how this works in the world circa 2020.

As far as I’m concerned this might be helpful for OU in that they would perhaps along with Texas finally join the SEC and be able to recruit defensive players again.

I just don’t see how Holder keeps Gundy otherwise.

They could play Army, Navy, Air Force, BYU, Oregon State, Missouri State, Rice, Tulsa, maybe Vanderbilt, McNeese, UCO, Bethany Nazarene… and put Harvard on there now and again. Does Falwell play football at Liberty? If so…they should be on the schedule as well. I think that would possibly get them to six wins.

Go all white with the Mullet King and see if you can sell this concept to your fanbase.

Everyone is happy this way.

Boone Archives—2014

I’m a fan of Boone’s actually. I thought he should have fired Gundy several times throughout the years. But Mike Holder always walked Boone back off the plank.

I would have fired Gundy the first time he played around with Tennessee as leverage to extract more money for his New York Yankees job after refusing to play a legitimate non-conference schedule.

I would have canned Mike Gundy’s ass right there and then. If you want top ten money—then play a top ten schedule. For crying out loud…Saban plays in the SEC West and plays a top flight non-conference team every year.

Let’s be candid here. Texas has been a massive underacheiver the past decade and OU’s inability to play defense at a high level should have opened the door for O State to at the minimum have won four Big 12 championships during Gundy’s tenure.

Gundy didn’t get it done for whatever reasons. Boone leveled the playing field with his money, but when push came to shove he allowed Mike Gundy to remain as his coach to his last day.

So now here we sit and what Mike Gundy did this week is effectively destroy what Boone’s money set out to do from the onset of his contributions. That being…to make it where O State could possibly recruit elite black athletes to its program at an OU or Texas level.

That’s what Boone’s money originally did, but that was just completely pissed away because in Mike Gundy’s own words he’s ‘a dumbass’.

I mean…what do you say at some point. It’s just stunning how despite almost playing for the national championship in 2011 it has reverted back to this level in Stillwater where it appears no one has a clue.

Here’s Boone in 2014 talking on Iowa Press about alternative energy within the prism of U.S. policy. What he should have been talking about was why he had just fired his knucklehead football coach.

Chuba Hubbard First Take–June 18th

Here’s what stands out the most to me so far in all of this. Chuba’s teammates stood with him when he made his intial complaints in regards to Mike Gundy. To my knowledge–not one current player defended Mike Gundy.

Additionally…not one past O State player under Gundy has come forward and taken on Chuba Hubbard and his claims.

If you listen to this interview carefully it could be possible Hubbard is simply asserting Mike Gundy is more of a clueless dumbass than a malicious racist. That’s what I think I heard in this interview on First Take.

If this is O State and Gundy’s defense then I’m not really sure what to think of these people at O State. Are you kidding?

I would think that after fifteen years of being a DI head coach in a Power 5 conference that Mike Gundy would be beyond the clueless dumbass phase of his career. I would think a coach who has recruited black athletes heavily in the rough areas of Houston would be way more hip than this.

What I’m saying is I don’t believe Mike Gundy. I don’t think he’s this stupid and I don’t believe it when he says he wasn’t aware of the extreme content on OAN.

This is a guy who still has three years on his contract and $16 million owed to him by Oklahoma State University. In Gundy’s mind this is probably Travis Ford inequity recompensation money

I’ll stick to what I wrote originally. Gundy assumed no one in Oklahoma would make a big deal of this because in essence his school is one which has great rural support and I would guess Trump probably garners around 80% support from O State people regardless of what he does. I just think Gundy miscalulated the national response would be this fervent.

I have no idea whatsover why urban blacks would want to attend Oklahoma State. Why would a black person go to this school? For Eddie Sutton…yes. Otherwise…no.

Pat Jones talked of this the other day. Of how hard its always been at O State to attract elite black recruits to Stillwater way before Mike Gundy put on the OAN T-shirt.

I think it’s very naive of Chuba Hubbard to think he’s going to educate or change Mike Gundy at this point. Mike Gundy is in damage control and simply wants to monetize the next three years on his contract would be my First Take.

Hope I’m wrong.

Several years ago at OU they had the situation with white fraternity kids who were caught singing racists songs on buses. Boren and Stoops closed them down immediately. Bob Stoops marched with the black players. What he didn’t do was wear one of the fraternity’s shirts.

This is the problem I have with Mike Gundy. If the totality of his defense is he’s a cluless dumbass…he shouldn’t be making $5.25 million per year and be the face of a major university.

That’s the problem I have.

Mike Gundy…put that mullet in a bun. You’re fired, buddy….at least on this little blog in Deer Creek.

Mike Gundy…You’re Fired

The notion any entity would pay Mike Gundy $5.2 million dollars a year for his services should be beyond anyone’s imagination at this point.

The notion that Donald Trump’s make believe wannabe alter ego in Stillwater is being paid to coach and teach young men is beyond the pale as well… given the times we now live in.

I never thought of Gundy as a racist before. I thought of him as goofy and immature at times, but never a racist. Maybe the mullet combined with this infatuation he has with Donald Trump put him over the edge.

I have no idea. Stillwater must be big for mullets since my nephew Simon had a mullet. You know..back when he was in the seventh grade.

I always kind of liked Gundy before this. But this is too much. This is too immature. No adult judgement whatsover. Jenni Carlson should be allowed to spank him with her paddle.

Mike Gundy isn’t enough of an adult for this job. And to think…that was his big line in the rant to Jenni Carlson when he said, “Tell me who’s the adult in the room?”

How could any reasonable person in this type of employment arrangement be so inheritently stupid and clueless following the murder of George Floyd?

If he wants to go work the drive thru window at Arby’s in Stillwater–then wear the shirt. If you want to shape young men’s lives and beat OU occasionally then don’t wear the shirt.

Evidently …Burns Hargis and Mike Holder don’t have the balls to do this. So…since Boone is gone–I’ll do it for them.

Mike Gundy…you’re fired.

So much for my Netflix mega hit film The Mullet King.

Easy come, easy go. I still love the song though.

‘I Saw a Mullet’ lyrics redo

Up north in Payne County…there’s a strange little man

People know the story call him the Mullet Man

His hair is all long now and slick in back

But when he’s in the shower he wears a mullet Sassoon cap

So I saw Mullet…. and he saw me

I saw Mike Gundy and now I understand.

Would Boone Have Fired Mike Gundy Yesterday?

This video is from 2010 when Boone’s team was one year from winning the Big 12 championship and in theory one missed field goal in Ames from playing for the national championship. This was Boone at his apex in franchise ownership at Oklahoma State.

Would this Boone have fired Mike Gundy yesterday?

I would say Mike Holder would have tried to stop him, but on this one Boone would have prevailed because what Gundy did was so stupid it will hurt the program for years to come from a perception and recruiting standpoint.

Gundy has every right in the world to wear a stupid dumbass T-shirt, but what he doesn’t have a right to do is permanently damage the perception of a state funded university which leans heavily on the fact it needs elite black athletes to make its football teams competitive.

Putting aside any of the moral arguments…Boone would have had a problem with something this overtly stupid.

This is why Boone would have fired Mike Gundy yesterday even though Boone was far from being politically correct. The question would have been would Mike Holder as per the norm saved Mike Gundy from himself?

Mike Gundy put his tail between his legs today and said all the right things to save his $5.2 million a year job. Again…he has a right to wear any stupid T-shirt he wants to wear. But my goodness…when you represent a university and a state one would hope both entities don’t embarrass themselves to the extent they can’t continue to be viable.

Former O State coach Pat Jones pretty much agrees with my take.

I think Boone would have fired Mike Gundy today.

But for the now and here it appears Chuba Hubbard just became the youngest head coach in DI college football for a year at least.

Chuba Hubbard Calls Out Mike Gundy For Racist Attitude

Chuba Hubbard is black. He’s Canadian and he’s probably the best running back in college football heading into the 2020 college football season.

He just did something off the field somewhat unique in that he called out his coach Mike Gundy for wearing an One America News T-shirt in these turbulent times of overt racism in our country.

OAN is something which makes Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh seem cuddly. You would think Mike Gundy would at least be smart enough to not be wearing an OAN shirt given that he makes $5.2 million a year because of black athletes like Chuba Hubbard, Tylan Wallace, and Spencer Sanders—just to name three current black difference makers at Oklahoma State.

But this is Oklahoma and even high rollers can wear bigotry and stupidity on their shirts. Gundy has been an open Trump supporter. Former OU head coach Barry Switzer hosted a Trump fundraiser back in 2016 on the very Saturday the Ohio State Buckeyes invaded and conquered Norman.

Kind of odd two white millionaires who made millions by having young blacks come play for them would openly support Donald Trump or OAN…but again this is Oklahoma.

Not a good look for O State the week after the basketball program was put on three years probation. Without Boone’s ownership the whole thing seems to be lacking leadership.

Would Boone fire Gundy if he were still living?

I’m not sure because Boone was a Trump supporter in 2016 as well. I know he wanted to fire Gundy because he couldn’t beat OU, but I’m not sure if being insensitive to racism would be grounds for Boone getting rid of Mike Gundy.

Berry Tramel wrote, ” Was Mike Gundy careless, clueless or calculated?”

I would answer none of the above.

Gundy just assumed because this is Oklahoma no one would call him out on this in Oklahoma and he was right.

Would Berry Tramel have written the above question if not for Chuba Hubbard? I doubt it.

Chuba Hubbard isn’t from Oklahoma. He’s Canadian and he called it like he saw it with Mike Gundy’s stupidity.

I’m sure Gundy will say the right things or at least try to at this point to keep Hubbard on the team. But you have to wonder who’s more the adult between Chuba Hubbard and Mike Gundy?

Greenwood Massacre in Tulsa

I’m a big Scott Pelly fan. This was on Sixty Minutes last night and is such a tragic part of Oklahoma’s history pertaining to race. This has to on my blog.

I don’t know if Trump people consider Sixty Minutes part of their fake news conspiracy of media bias.

Scott Pelly has one of the great voices in the history of news. You might be interested to know Pelly is a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

I spent a New Years Eve in Lubbock with my father the year OU played Boise in the Fiesta Bowl. If you’ve never been to Lubbock…you need to go at least once.

This video from Sixty Minutes on the Greenwood Massacre should be a must for every American of every color and religion.
